The Conversation Conference – TCC 1.0
Breaking the Silence: Starting the Conversation on Mental Health in Nigeria
In 2022, Intersect Consortium launched the inaugural edition of The Conversation Conference (TCC 1.0),
a landmark event aimed at transforming how Nigeria approaches mental health in the workplace.
Held in commemoration of World Mental Health Day, TCC 1.0 marked the beginning of a national movement to
normalize mental health conversations within professional and organizational spaces.
As the largest consortium of mental health providers in West Africa,
Intersect Consortium operates over eight treatment centers strategically located across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
But beyond service delivery, we asked ourselves: How can we deepen our impact?
TCC 1.0 was our answer, an intentional platform to bring together the public sector,
private companies, and development organizations to explore the role of mental health in driving productivity,
employee well-being, and systemic change.
This day is a call to action: to break the silence around mental health, to offer resources and care, and to create environments where humanitarian champions feel safe, valued, and resilient.
Why Mental Health in the Workplace?
In a country like Nigeria, workplace stress, burnout, and mental health stigma remain largely unaddressed.
Yet the health of any organization is directly tied to the health of its people.
TCC 1.0 focused on Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) and how employers can create healthier,
safer environments for their teams. Discussions centered on:
- Integrating mental health support into HR policies
- Creating safe channels for staff to seek help
- Reducing burnout and increasing productivity
- Understanding the ROI of investing in employee mental well-being
